The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, emphasized that a lack of decision on Kosova’s membership in today’s Ministerial of the Council of Europe is a lost opportunity in embodying the principles of this Organization.
At the end of the 133rd session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Minister Hasani said that the Albanian delegation will continue its efforts to fulfill what is owed to the people of Kosova.
“I expressed our regret that this Ministerial was not able to examine Kosova’s request for membership in this Organization. The overwhelming support of the Parliamentary Assembly in April reflected a commitment to solidarity and progress that must be heard. It is necessary for the government of Kosova to act immediately to fulfill the commitments made”, he said.
While expressing his congratulations on the 75th anniversary of this organization, the Albanian Chief Diplomat underlined that solidarity with Ukraine remains a principle in defense of the heritage and values on which the Council of Europe was founded.
“As for our country, thanks to its membership in this Organization 29 years ago, Albania has recognized extraordinary achievements in the three pillars of this Organization, thanks to the expertise, assistance and support of a series of mechanisms and instruments that originate from the system of Conventions of Council of Europe”, declared Minister Hasani.
During his visit to Strasbourg, Minister Hasani also held a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the CoE member countries.
