Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, held a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon.
Minister Hasani expressed appreciation for Slovenia’s continued support in Albania’s European journey, emphasizing that Albania has made consistent progress in meeting EU standards.
“EU membership remains our strategic priority. We have fulfilled and will continue to fulfill our obligations, but we also expect official Brussels to uphold its commitments. The European integration process cannot be stalled, much less take steps backward. It must follow a single path—moving swiftly forward,” stated the Albanian chief diplomat.
According to Minister Hasani, there is untapped potential in strengthening trade exchanges between Albania and Slovenia.
“Our two countries share a rich history of cooperation. I believe that together, we will continue to cultivate these relations on the solid foundations of friendship and strategic partnership, both bilaterally and multilaterally, for a peaceful and secure region and a strong, democratic Europe,” he said.
Slovenian Minister Fajon noted the strategic necessity of further enlargement in the Western Balkans region.
“We need a good success story. I hope that Albania will soon open one of the core clusters. I have confidence in the European Commission’s assessment in September regarding the reform agenda,” she stated.
As part of her official visit to Albania, Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister Tanja Fajon participated in the ‘Diplomatic Ambassadors’ Conference 2024’.
