During his visit to Berlin, the Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Gent Cakaj, had a meeting with the German Minister of State for Europe, Michael Roth.

Both speakers appreciated the close partnership instrumental in strengthening the relations between EU and Albania, in terms of which Minister Roth had to say that the European perspective of Albania and the Western Balkans is one of the key priorities for Germany.

Roth pointed out that Albania is a factor of stability and security across the region, and that the country must carry on the good work performed so far on the reforms on the five priorities.

‘The vetting process of the judicial bodies represents a momentous reform,’ Minister Roth said.

‘Germany has all the good will to continue to assist Albania, and as a well-wisher of Albania that I have always been, I hope for a positive decision in June 2019,’ Roth said in the meeting with the Acting Minister Cakaj.

On his part, the Acting Minister Cakaj underlined that Albania is keen to intensify cooperation with Germany, as a partner, in accomplishing all the tasks assigned to it so as to join the European family.

The head of Albanian diplomacy Cakaj expressed his appreciation to Minister Roth for the support and positive willingness that he personally and the German Government have expressed at each step of Albania’s journey towards membership of the EU.
