In association with the United Nations Albania, and the Ministry for Tourism and Environment, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs hosted an environmental event on the occasion of the anniversary of the UN Day.
This event was attended by Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj, the Minister for Tourism and Environment Blendi Klosi, the UN Resident Coordinator, Albania, Brian J. Williams, the UN Youth Delegate, Albania, Ilda Methasani, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Albania, as well as numerous foreign and Albanian personalities from various fields.
In a Facebook post, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj writes that Albania is the only country in the Western Balkans, which has a Mitigation Action Plan and a National Adaptation Plan in place.
Additionally, the Head of Albanian diplomacy Cakaj underlines that these instruments are indicative of Albania’s intention to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45% in the next decade, with a view to definitely reducing emissions to zero.
‘The issue surrounding environmental protection and climate-focussed action will be an integral part of Albania’s policies under its 2020 OSCE Chairmanship, and a central topic of the platform for its nomination for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council between 2022 and 2023,’ Acting Minister Cakaj pointed out.
