The Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj attended the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Global Coalition for the Defeat of ISIS, organized by the US State Department in Washington.
This ministerial, which has been in place for several years, serves as an important forum in the orientation and unification of global efforts in the fight for the complete defeat of ISIS, as well as for the launch of new initiatives, commitments and projects of Trump Administration and Partners in the Coalition, to build peace and post-conflict future in Syria and Iraq.
The US Administration paid special attention to this year’s session, where after the opening of the meeting by Secretary of State Pompey, US President Donald Trump attended and held a speech.
The Acting Minister Cakaj, in his intervention once again stressed Albania’s readiness, since the very beginning, to support allies and Iraqi authorities in joint efforts to finally destroy ISIS.
Cakaj praised that the solidarity that characterized the Coalition, determination and substantial joint contribution has yielded excellent results in the fight against terrorism and ISIS.
At the end of his speech, Cakaj expressed Albania’s readiness to continue supporting and cooperating closely with the Allies to build the difficult peace in the region and encouraged the Iraqi Government to secure and advance the achieved victory for consolidating sustainable peace and economic prosperity of the country.
