Meeting between Prime Ministers Rama-Tsipras in Brussels highlights strategic nature and importance of Albanian-Greek relations

In the framework of the NATO Summit in Brussels, Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras. The meeting was also attended by Foreign Ministers Bushati and Kotzias.

Both PM’s underscored the strategic nature and importance of Albanian-Greek relations, as well as the role of the friendship between the two nations as a peace and stability bridge in the progress of the Euro-Atlantic integration of the region.

The PMs discussed bilateral relations and expressed their full support to the initiative of the two Foreign Ministers on a mechanism of intensive consultations in order to finding solutions to the problems inherited from the past as well as to promote relations further.

Parties underlined the special role of the Albanian community in Greece and praised the important steps taken for the social integration of Albanians in Greece.

Prime Minister Rama stressed the need for progress towards finding solutions to existing disputes between the two countries in respect of the best European and international law practices. “Greece has supported us and we want it to continue to be a strong supporter of Albania's EU accession process”, stated PM Rama.

Prime Minister Tsipras voiced Greece’s strong support on the state-consolidation reforms in Albania and the importance he attaches to respect for the rights of the Greek National Minority in our country.

Parties agreed that only finding concrete solutions with a direct impact on the well-being of both nations will strengthen trust between the two countries and will remove us from the conflicting rhetoric and the deadlock of the past.
