In the framework of the Adriatic Trilateral on July 20th in Budva, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati attended the Third Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Albania, Montenegro and Croatia.
This platform, that was launched last year, serves the common efforts for consolidating the cooperation in Adriatic Europe, already transformed into Adriatic NATO, and for a joint action in the interest of a safer and a more interconnected region in all dimensions.
During the meeting, the three Foreign Ministers focused on the conclusions of the NATO Summit in Brussels, the EU Summit and the Western Balkans in London in the framework of the Berlin Process, as well as on improving interconnection and transport in the region, and fostering co-operation in the area of tourism and environmental protection.
In his remarks, Minister Bushati stressed the importance to cooperate between the three countries in the integration processes and to transform this region from a secure space into a development space.
According to Bushati, “the enlargement process cannot be developed in vacuum; it must be accompanied by instruments that serve both the economic recovery process and the political and social transformation of Western Balkan countries”.
Regarding NATO’s Open Doors Policy, Ministers expressed full support for Macedonia’s membership in the Alliance and commended the Skopje-Athens agreement as well as the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
A special focus was devoted to the progress and interaction for the advancement of projects of strategic importance such as the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor and Gas Pipeline which will link the Trans-Adriatic pipeline with Croatia through Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as cooperation in the field of energy, tourism and the environment.
The Foreign Ministers of the three countries signed a Joint Declaration at the conclusion of the meeting.
