Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj, on his first visit to the region, held a series of bilateral meetings with Albanian parties in North Macedonia.
The Chief Diplomat met with DUI President Ali Ahmeti, DPA Chairman Menduh Thaçi, President of the BESA Movement Bilal Kasami, Chairman of the Alliance for Albanians Zijadin Sela, as well as with the Chairman of the Alternative Party, Afrim Gashi. At these meetings the discussions focused on the positive steps that North Macedonia has recently scored, thanks to the irreplaceable contribution of the Albanian factor, to the Euro-Atlantic integration processes.
“The undisputed vision and vocation of the Albanian factor in support of Euro-Atlantic integrations was also crucial for the implementation of the Prespa Agreement,” said Acting Minister Cakaj. In these meetings was also discussed the importance of further engagement of the entire Albanian political spectrum in the processes of state consolidation.
“Consolidating stability and prosperity, not only for North Macedonia but also for the whole region, is a continuous work and process that necessarily requires the continuation of engagement and preservation of coherence among Albanians in North Macedonia,” Acting Minister Cakaj emphasized in meetings with the Heads of Albanian Political Parties.
This visit comes at an important moment in terms of both countries’ journey to the European Union and their expectation of receiving a positive response to the opening of membership talks.
