Cakaj–Sarrazin: EU must keep its promise to start negotiations

Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj had a friendly meeting with the Rapporteur on Albania in the Committee on the Affairs of the European Union in the German Bundestag, and representative from Alliance 90/The Greens, Manuel Sarrazin.
In the meeting, Acting Minister Cakaj welcomed the encouraging approach taken by the Rapporteur on Albania Sarrazin to further advance Albania’s European agenda.
‘Albania has met all the conditions set in the last meeting of the Council of Ministers of the European Union Member States, and is ready for the negotiations to open,’ the head of Albanian diplomacy said.
The Rapporteur on Albania Sarrazin confirmed his own and The Greens’ support for the start of the accession negotiations.
Further to what he already stated in the joint meeting with representatives from the Bundestag, he underlined the need for the Member States to keep the word given for the negotiations to start following the meeting of the five priorities, with it being implied both as an appreciation of the achievements hitherto, and as an encouraging message to the Albanian institutions and society.
