Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj, who held a press conference with his counterpart, Nikola Dimitrov, in North Macedonia, expressed the readiness and support of Albania’s top state leaders for deepening and expanding bilateral relations, as well as mutual support among countries on the Euro-Atlantic journey.
“North Macedonia is not only a friend but also a partner for Albania. Part of the success of North Macedonia are also the Albanians who live here, starting from the Ohrid Accord to the Prespa Agreement. Today, with our counterpart, Dimitrov, we discussed a series of issues, the necessity of extending bilateral relations, as well as cooperation to be a powerful voice of each other in opening accession negotiations with the European Union,” said Cakaj. During the joint conference with Dimitrov.
The same message was confirmed by Foreign Minister of North Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov, who underlined that “Albania and Macedonia have excellent bilateral relations and will continue to support each other on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration,” Dimitrov said.
Asked about the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement, the Acting Minister Cakaj said that “In this context, my visit to Skopje should be seen first and foremost as an expression of our readiness to deepen and expand bilateral co-operation, but also as unequivocal support to our eastern neighbor for the advancement of Euro-Atlantic integration, through the consolidation and construction of a cohesive society that respects inter-ethnic coexistence, equality in rights and obligations for the Albanian population, and the implementation of the commitments undertaken within the framework of the Ohrid Agreement “
