Ministri në detyrë për Evropën dhe Punët e Jashtme, Gent Cakaj, zhvilloi një mëngjes pune, në MEPJ, me Ministrin e Jashtëm të Polonisë, Jacek Czaputowicz, Ministrin e Jashtëm të Letonisë, Edgars Rinkēvičs, Ministrin e Jashtëm të Lituanisë, Linas Antanas Linkevičius dhe Nënsekretarin e Shtetit për Çështjet Evropiane në Ministrinë e Jashtme të Estonisë, Märt Volmer.
Takimi u fokusua në çështje që lidhen me procesin integrimit evropian të Shqipërisë, në të cilin mbështetja që japin këto vende, për fillimin e menjëhershëm të bisedimeve për anëtarësim me Bashkimin Evropian, është absolute.
Në konferencën për shtyp, të zhvilluar pas mëngjesit të punës, Cakaj u shpreh se forma e re e negociimit, i siguron vendet anëtare në përgjithësi dhe vendet skeptike në veçanti, se përparimi në rrugën e anëtarësimit në Bashkimin Evropian do të kushtëzohet drejtpërdrejtë nga përparimi i prekshëm, reformat e thella dhe zhvillimi i qëndrueshëm.
Gjithashtu, Kryediplomati në fjalën e tij theksoi : “Shqipëria, natyrisht, mirëpret metodologjinë e re duke vlerësuar nevojën e rritjes së besueshmërisë së BE-së në Ballkanin Perëndimor.”
Sa i përket raportit të progresit, i cili u publikua menjëherë pas metodologjisë së re, Cakaj bëri me dije se Komisioni Evropian edhe një herë ka rekomanduar çeljen e menjëhershme të bisedimeve për anëtarësim në Bashkimin Evropian, bazuar në meritat madhore të Shqipërisë.
“Raporti nënvijëzon se Shqipëria është rast shembullor i veprimit në përputhje absolute me politikën e jashtme dhe të sigurisë së Bashkimit Evropian.”- cilësoi Cakaj.
Për më tepër, Cakaj shprehu angazhimin e plotë të Qeverisë shqiptare për të përkthyer vlerësimin teknik të Komisionit në vullnet politik të Këshillit, nëpërmjet një pune të strukturuar e intensive.
Në përfundim të fjalës, Ministri në detyrë Cakaj i shprehu mirënjohjen Polonisë, Letonisë, Lituanisë dhe Estonisë, edhe për mbështetjen e pakursyer teknike e institucionale, për të rritur kapacitetet institucionale e profesionale të Shqipërisë në procesin e integrimit.
 
Joint Statement of Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
We, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland as well as the Estonian Undersecretary for European Affairs, having paid a joint visit to North Macedonia and Albania on 3-5 March 2020, express our determined and unequivocal support for the European aspirations of the Western Balkan states and the firm, merit-based prospect of their full European Union membership.
In this context we strongly hope that the Council will agree this month to start the accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia, following the European Commission’s renewed positive recommendations and assessment of both countries’ reform efforts as well as the Commission’s Communication on enhancing the accession process. This decision is needed to reaffirm the commitment and credibility of the EU enlargement policy.
 
As representatives of countries who have joined themselves the European Union 16 years ago, we share the common belief that the EU enlargement policy contributes to the stability, security and prosperity both in the Western Balkan region and Europe as a whole. The European integration of the Western Balkan countries should thus remain a strategic political objective for the EU.
 
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland remain committed to supporting and assisting the Western Balkan states in their continued reform efforts linked to the accession process, both bilaterally and in the framework of the European Union and other multilateral formats. The speed of the accession negotiations should be determined solely by the progress in reform areas set out by the Commission and the Council, adherence to the EU values and the Common Foreign and Security Policy alignment.
