Thank you, Mr President,
Let me begin by expressing my delegation’s appreciation for the joint briefings delivered by the outgoing Committee Chairs and thank them for their work delivered in their respective committees.
This joint briefing demonstrates the ways in which the Council can become more transparent about the work it does towards the entire membership, and we strongly support the expansion of this practice to other areas.
This is because we believe transparency is critical to increase the credibility and effectiveness of the Council.
Mr President,
The outgoing chairs provided us with rich information about the work that has been done and remains to be completed.
We congratulate Mexico for the good stewardship of committee 1540 and appreciate the inclusion of various stakeholders in consultations, including civil society, which we think is something we should build on and further strengthen.
Likewise, we congratulate Norway for the chairmanship of 1267Committee. We strongly support the sanctions regime until basic internationally guaranteed rights are respected by the de facto authorities in Afghanistan.
We condemn in the strongest terms terrorist violence and ideology and support all efforts to hold perpetrators to account.
We appreciate the work of the CTC (under the stewardship of India) and support the efforts to expose terrorist ties and hold those responsible to accountable.
We remain deeply concerned with the dire humanitarian situation in al Hawl and other camps, which remain recruitment camps for Daesh, Al Qaida and other groups and call all those in position of power to help protect the most vulnerable, especially women and children.
This includes the dignified repatriation and reintegration of these people in their respective countries of citizenship.
I thank you!
