ACTUALITY AND RETROSPECTIVE

7 September 1991: restoration of diplomatic range Apostolic Nunciature to the Holy See and the Holy See Embassy in Albania.

September 1991: First Apostolic Nuncio appointed Indian prelate, H.E. Archbishop Ivan Dias.

22 April 1993: Ambassador ago H.E.Mr. Willy Kamsi presents Credential Letters few days before the pilgrimage of Pope John Paul II to Albania.

29 November 1994: The Holy Father first creates Albanian Cardinal, His Eminence, Cardinal Mikel Kolic.

25 January 2001: Pope John Paul II, headquarters moved from St. Lucis Church in Durres in St. Paul's Cathedral in Tirana.

Rome, 19 October 2003: Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the daughter of prominent Albanian people, was declared beatified.
14 November 2004: Pope John Paul II, creates Albanian immigrants in Italy, the opportunity to gather in a church to meet their spiritual needs in Albanian, Albanian-speaking inaugurated believers, the Church of St. John the Mullage in Trastevere Roman neighborhood.

OFFICIAL VISITS

The visits to Albania

25 April 1993: Pope John Paul II visits Albania, being banned in Shkodra and Tirana. Visiting give the martyred Church, the hierarchy of the new pasdiktaturës - four new bishops: Bishop Frano Ilin, Rrok Mirdita, Archbishop Robert Ashton and Bishop Zef Simoni.

May 1998: His Eminence, Cardinal Jozef Tomko, prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, visits Albania, meet senior representatives of the Church in the Country, appreciates the role of the Church in the development process of the country, and blesses the Church of the Assumption of the Good Council newly renovated.

26 January 2002: Secretary of State, His Eminence, Cadinal Sodano visits Albania and consecrates St. Paul's Cathedral in Tirana.

8-12 November 2002: His Eminence, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples visits Albania. On November 9 meets with the Conference Episcopal Albania and on November 10 leads Mass in the Cathedral of Shkodra, where step process diocesan sanctification of 40 witnesses, mostly victims of the communist dictatorship and visits diocese of Sapa, November 11 celebrates the Holy Mass stockpile of Lezha.

23 April 2003: Special Envoy of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, His Eminence, Cardinal Ivan Dias, participated on behalf of His Holiness in the celebrations organized by the Catholic Church on the occasion of the commemoration the 10th anniversary of the Holy Father's visit to our Country, and bring the whole Catholic church and Albanian people, his message.

April 2006: Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See, H.E. Monsignor Lajola visits Albania.

25-28 June 2011: Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See, H.E. Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, conducts an official visit to Albania.

21 September 2014: Pope Francis, at his first visit to Europe, visits Albania .How rarely, with hundreds of thousands of believers, Christians and Muslims, could be seen in the early morning hours of Tirana's main boulevard, to host Pope Francis. There was a large turnout of believers from Kosova, Montenegro, Italy, Switzerland and the USA.

October 2003: President Moisiu, President Berisha, President Meidani visit the Vatican on the occasion of the beatification of Mother Teresa.

February 2004: Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Kastriot Islami meets with H.E.Msgr. Lajola .

November 2005: President of the Council of Ministers, H.E. Mr. Sali Berisha meets with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

February 2006: President of the Republic of Albania, H.E. Mr. Alfred Moisiu meets His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

December 2007: President of the Republic of Albania, H.E. Mr. Bamir Topi meets with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

May 1, 2011: Delegation of the Republic of Albania made by the President, Mr. Bamir Topi, Prime Minister, Mr. Sali Berisha and Speaker of Parliament, Mrs. Jozefina Topalli. They took part in the solemn Mass led by Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican on the occasion of the beatification of Pope John Paul II.

5 May 2012: The President of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Bamir Topi, accompanied by the First Lady, Teuta Topi, was received in audience by Pope Benedict XVI. Then he followed a meeting with Secretary of State, Cardinal Bertone.

24 April 2014: Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, H.E. Mr. Edi Rama, accompanied by Mrs. Linda Rama, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bushati, Minister of Defence, Mrs. Kodheli, Minister of Education and Sports, Ms. Linidita Nikolli was received in private audience by the Pope. Next came a meeting with Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The visit of His Holiness Pope John Paul II in Albania

On April 25, 1993, Pope John Paul II visits Albania. It was the first time a Pope visited our country. During this visit, the Pope ordained four Albanian bishops in the Cathedral of Shkodra, rebuilding the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, church martyred during the dictatorship. The visit continued in the capital, where a mag nificent rally at Skanderbeg Square, the Holy Father directed his remarks to all the Albanian people .

The visit of His Holiness Pope Francis in Albania

At his first visit to Europe, from the square with the name of the Albanian Mother Teresa, among others Pope Francis addressed Albanians and other attendees with the words:
"I came to be encouraged to grow within and between you hope. Eagle that you wish on your banner, always hold hope that does not disappoint the Lord stands at the difficult moments. "
Pope also thanked the Albanian Church that survived the communist regime and prayed for peace. BILATERAL AGREEMENTS

2002: Agreement on regulation of mutual relations.

2005: The "Law on the Procedures of Recognition ability ecclesiastical legal person of the Catholic Church."

2007: Agreement between the archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania to the Vatican Secret Archives.

2007: Law on the regulation of economic and fiscal aspects of the operation of some institutions of the Catholic Church in Albania.

2007: Agreement between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Albania and Research Center Hospital "Bambino Gesù" (official organ of the Holy See).

2010: Agreement between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Albania and the Catholic University "Sacro Cuore" University Polyclinic "Agostino Gemelli" in Rome.

15 April 2011: Signing of the cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports and the "Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi".

February 12, 2013: Agreement of cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Policlinic "A.Gemelli" to treat emergency cases and training of medical personnel through informative projects.

February 12, 2013: Agreement of cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Pediatric Hospital "Bambino Gesù", to treat emergency cases and recovery of complex pathologies and training medical personnel ..

APOSTOLIC NUNZIATURA

Apostolic Nunziatura starts its activity in Albania, Tirana in 1991, shortly after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Albania and the Holy See.
