Baku is the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan borders with Iran, Turkey, Russia, Georgia and Armenia. The government of the Republic of Azerbaijan is organized at the base of principles of separation of power. According to the traditional concept of the separation of power, the Constitution determines that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan holds the executive power, the legislative power is carried out by the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan — Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the judicial power is held by the independent courts.
Our country’s diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan were established on September 22, 1993.
With Azerbaijan, there is an ever-increasing trend of political contacts and increasing interest in cooperation in areas of interest, especially in recent years.
Friendly bilateral relations between the two countries are based on trust and mutual respect. The areas of the greatest potential for the intensification of cooperation have already been identified, which are energy and tourism. Several agreements have been signed and others are in the process. Economic cooperation remains at the center of the commitment of both governments. Cooperation in the energy sector is considered one of the most important areas of our economic relations. The completion of the TAP gas pipeline works is of strategic importance for strengthening cooperation in this field. Albania is interested in an active participation of Azerbaijan in the development of energy infrastructure in the country and pays special attention to the implementation of the Memorandum on the General Gasification Plan of Albania, signed between the two countries.
The two governments have reached an agreement to facilitate the movement of citizens of both countries without visas, which will affect the increase in the number of tourists mutually, but also in facilitating business.
Mutual visits at high levels are an expression of the very positive progress of cooperation relations.
Both countries have taken relevant decisions on opening of respective embassies in Tirana and Baku. Azerbaijan has opened the embassy in Tirana and Albania is in the technical preparations for opening the embassy in Azerbaijan. The opening of the embassies is considered very positive for the successful progress of relations.
