On March 2, 1444, in the Cathedral of the church of St. Kollis in the city of Lezha, where today the memorial of George Kastriot Skanderbeg is located, the “League of Lezha” was held. It constitutes one of the brightest moments of the anti-Ottoman resistance, in the middle of the XV century, as it was the first known political and military alliance in Albania’s history.
The League of Lezha was the assembly where the foundations of Albanian national unity and state tradition were laid.
