2.TRAVEL DOCUMENT FOR REPATRIATION OF HUMAN REMAINS

(LAISSEZ-PASSER FOR A CORPSE)

 

In order to ship the human remains of an Albanian citizen to Albania, the Embassy issues a travel document for the repatriation of human remains (Laissez-Passer for a corpse).

 

To issue this document, the following steps need to be completed:

 

First step is the online application in the following link:

Second step is mailing to the Embassy the following documents:

 

  1. Identity document of the deceased (Albanian passport or Albanian ID card or Albanian birth certificate);
  2. Identity document of the applicant (family member or the authorized funeral agency); If the application is completed by the funeral agency, a document that a family member of the deceased has authorized the agency to carry out this procedure is needed.
  3. Death Certificate/Statement of Death of the deceased issued by the Service of the Province of the deceased (not issued by the Funeral Home).
  4. pre-paid return envelope (Xpress post/track number) with the recipient’s address for the return of the document(s), after issuance, to the applicant’s address in Canada.

 

 

Note that the Death Certificate/Statement of Death needs to be legalized (refer to the 3. Legalization of Documents) in order for the name of the deceased to be removed from the Civil Registry in Albania.

 

 

 

3. LEGALIZATION OF DOCUMENTS

 

The legalization is done only online and by postal mail, not in person. The process is as follows:

Note: You need to make an application per document.

          The country/state you need to select is Canada, which is noted as "Kanada".

 

The second stepis mailing the document(s) that require legalization to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) for authentication, at the following address:

The envelope addressed to DFATD should contain the following:

 

  1. the original document(s) you are interested in legalizing. Kindly review the document requirements prior authentication in this link: https://www.international.gc.ca/gac-amc/about-a_propos/services/authentication-authentification/step-etape-2.aspx?lang=eng;
  2. the Form selecting the option of forwarding the documents to the Embassy after authentication:

        3. money order payable to Albanian Embassy. Kindly refer to the consular fees table.

        4. pre-paid return envelope (Xpress post/track number) with the recipient’s address for the return of the                              document(s), after issuance, to the applicant’s address in Canada.

 

After authentication DFATD then forwards all the above-mentioned documents to the Embassy for legalization and after that we forward them to your address via the pre-paid envelope that you have already sent us.

5.  ATTESTATION FOR CANADIAN AUTHORITIES OF IMMIGRATION AND CITIZENSHIP REGARDING ALBANIAN PASSPORTS

 

At present, the Embassy does not issue, renew or extend the validity of biometric passports for Albanian citizens in Canada. According to Albanian rules and regulations it is mandatory that Albanian citizens be present in person in Albania in order to apply and obtain a new Albanian biometric passport.

In this case, the Embassy issues a Consular Attestation confirming the above. The procedure is the following:

The second step is mailing the following documents to the Embassy:

  1. Albanian identification document (passport or ID card);
  2. money order payable to Albanian Embassy. Kindly refer to the consular fees table.
  3. pre-paid return envelope (Xpress post/track number) with the recipient’s address for the return of the document(s), after issuance, to the applicant’s address in Canada.

 

After receipt of the above documents, the Embassy proceeds with the issuing of the Consular Attestation.

 

17. VISA REGIME FOR FOREIGN CITIZENS

 

Visas are issued to foreign nationals with permanent residence in Canada. Refer to the following link for detailed information on the visa regime for foreign nationals:
