Thank you, Mr. President,
Albania is deeply concerned by the current situation in the Central African Republic and an increased number of human rights violations in the country.
The situation remains very complex. The country has been plagued by instability, humanitarian crisis, longstanding inter-communal tensions, competition for resources and weak governance. The human toll of this conflict is staggering. Sexual violence and abuse against women are rampant in the conflict-affected areas. Children are particularly vulnerable, with many denied education and exposed to the horrors of war.
Disturbing incidents such as summary and extrajudicial executions, arbitrary detentions, torture, and conflict-related sexual violence persist. Perpetrators of human rights violations, including members of armed groups and security forces, often act with impunity due to limited state capacity, weak rule of law, and a lack of accountability mechanisms.
The conflict has led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people within the country and beyond its borders. We call on the government, with the support of the international community, to continue working on the conditions for a safe, dignified, and sustainable return of displaced persons and refugees.
We reiterate our belief that the Political Agreement for Peace and Stability remains the only viable option to end conflict and crisis in the country.
Albania calls on the Central African authorities, to build on political progress and ensure meaningful engagement with all political actors in the country.
Thank you.
