Regular migration pathways: a global call for action
The High-Level Segment of the 115th Session of the Council of the International Organization for Migration opened today in Geneva, with discussions focused on the theme of Regular Migration Pathways – a global call to action.
In his statement, the head of the Albanian delegation, Deputy Minister of Interior Mr. Andi Mahila, emphasized that the Albanian government:
- remains committed to finding sustainable solutions for orderly and safe migration, which requires joint coordination of all national and international actors
- has made significant progress in migration management, in particular with the official opening of the first Chapter of negotiations with the EU, which includes Chapter 24 “Justice, Freedom and Security”.
- has adopted the National Migration Strategy (2024-2030) and the Action Plan (2024-2026), in line with the Global Compact on Migration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- In the framework of regional cooperation, it has achieved concrete results through engagement in the Berlin Process and chairing the Migration, Asylum and Refugee Regional Initiative (MARRI) until July 2025
- appreciates the role of IOM as a key partner for the Albanian Government in drafting and monitoring the legal framework for free and safe movement
