47ème Session de l’EPU
Intervention sur l’EPU de la République Populaire Démocratique de Corée
7 Novembre 2024
Albania welcomes the DPRK delegation for presenting its report.
We remain deeply concerned by reports of continued, widespread and systematic violations of human rights in the DPRK, such as the right to life, violations of personal dignity and liberty, the right to health and the right to freedom of movement, not to mention the surveillance and censorship of individuals, organizations, media and communications, all of which are contrary to international human rights laws and standards.
The violations and restrictions of fundamental rights have been reinforced by the implementation of new laws, implemented since 2020.
Albania would like to make the following recommendations:
- Grant international mechanisms unrestricted access to the country;
- Establish a moratorium on executions as a first step towards the abolition of the death penalty;
- Dismantle political prison camps and release all political prisoners;
- Ratify the Convention against Torture CAT and ICERD;
- Combat all forms of gender-based violence against women and criminalize all forms of sexual violence.
Thank you.
