Thank you Mr. President,

Albania would like to express its appreciation for the work of the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons, Madame Claudia Mahler. We welcome the focus of the report, and the good practices identified to safeguard the legal capacity rights of older persons.

Worldwide older people are faced with many challenges in securing respect for their fundamental rights, ranging from discrimination, neglect, inadequate health care, and various forms of violence.

Albania notes the recommendation of the Independent Expert on the need to strengthen the implementation of existing norms and to close the remaining gaps to ensure that older persons are treated as rights holders.

Albania has paid special attention to the protection of the rights, dignity, and autonomy of older persons, both through the establishment and implementation of a comprehensive national legal framework, as well as by drafting and implementing policies and strategies in the field of social and health care.

The adoption of the National Political Document on Aging aimed to support better integration of older persons into society and to ensure quality services, as well as healthy and productive life for them.

To conclude, I would like to emphasize that the Albanian government is committed to improving its policies and legal frameworks to guarantee the well-being of all its citizens, especially vulnerable groups, and to ensure the protection of all their rights.
