Geneva, 5 March 2024
Mr. President,
Albania thanks the Special Rapporteur for identifying the risks to which child performers are exposed within the entertainment industry, as well as the comprehensive recommendations on ways to mitigate these risks.
We agree with the recommendation of the Special Rapporteur on the importance of ratifying and implementing the relevant regional and international instruments to eradicate the sexual abuse and exploitation of children thus committing governments to offer broader protection for children who are victims of trafficking and exploitation.
In Albania, the policies and programs for the prevention and protection of children from all forms of violence, sexual abuse, and exploitation create an effective system that guarantees the rights of child.
The Child Protection Unit has been established in each municipality to identify, evaluate, protect, and provide services to children at risk and victims of any form of violence, abuse, exploitation, or neglect.
Every year, national awareness activities are organized to address the problem of child abuse and sexual exploitation aiming to promote the culture of reporting, including online reporting, access to free advice, legal, psychological, and other assistance as well as how to prevent not to become victims of such abuses.
A national strategy on Justice for Victims and the Action Plan (2024-2030), as well as a Strategy on Friendly Juvenile Justice System and Action Plan (2022-2026) foreseen measures aiming to prevent, protect, and support the child victims, equal and friendly access to justice and the services for every child.
To conclude, Albania would like to express full support for the mandate of the Special Rapporteur.
Thank you.
