Dear Madame Chair,
Dear representatives from National Societies,
Excellencies,
I would like to extend a special thanks to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the Standing Commission for your work in bringing together States Parties to the Geneva Conventions and members of the Red Cross Movements from all over the world, in this unique platform to speak in one voice for humanity and to enhance humanitarian action.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, the cornerstone of international humanitarian law and a key and powerful instrument to protect people in armed conflict.
Unfortunately, we continue to face enormous challenges, ranging from the impact of climate change to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of conflicts around the world.
International humanitarian law must be respected and protected under all circumstances and by all.
Madame Chair,
In the evolving landscape of armed conflicts, we wish to bring to the attention of the Conference the devastating impact of these conflicts on the most vulnerable population, including children, women and girls, and elderly persons.
Albania expresses its profound concern for the ongoing violence committed against children and sexual violence against women and girls in armed conflicts.
Albania calls on all parties in conflict to fulfill their obligations under international law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law, to protect the most vulnerable population and to allow and facilitate unimpeded humanitarian access.
Madame Chair,
Albania praises the mission of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movements all over the world to always prevent and alleviate human suffering everywhere during armed conflicts and in times of emergencies.
The government of Albania commends the work of the Red Cros of Albania and is committed to support them, in line with its obligations under the Geneva Conventions, and as part of its commitment to promote and enhance humanitarian actions.
The government of Albania has undertaken various projects in close cooperation with the Red Cross of Albania to promote a society that acknowledges the importance of humanitarian aid and solidarity.
We highly appreciate the work of the Red Cross and Red Cresent in their humanitarian aid operations during disasters and crises that have affected our country, helping many people affected by these disasters.
