Human Rights Council
56th session of the Human Rights Council
09 September to 11 October 2024
Geneva, 8 October 2024
Thank you, Madam Vice President,
Albania thanks High Commissioner for the interim report and the International Expert, Mr.William O’Neil for his contribution.
We express our deep concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in Haiti, as highlighted in the interim report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The alarming levels of violence, particularly gang violence, have led to severe human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings, kidnappings, and sexual violence. The impact on women, children, and other vulnerable groups is particularly distressing.
We commend the efforts of the Haitian authorities and the international community, including the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission, to address the security crisis. However, we urge further action to strengthen the rule of law, ensure accountability for human rights violations, and provide adequate protection and support to victims.
In conclusion, Albania reaffirms its commitment to supporting Haiti in its efforts to overcome the current crisis and to build a peaceful, just, and prosperous society. We stand ready to work with the international community to ensure that the human rights of all Haitians are respected and protected.
I thank you.
