PERSONAL INFORMATION
Born in Tirana, Albania, in 1975,
Mrs. Irida Laçi is married and mother of three sons.
EDUCATION
Mrs. Irida Laçi graduated in 2000, cum laude from the Universita’ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan, Italy, where she studied Foreign Languages. From 2011 to 2015 she completed her PHD studies on International relations at the Institute of European Studies, Tirana University, Albania. From 2006 – to 2008 she attended studies and holds a Master Degree in International Relations, from Tirana University. 2004 – 2005 she attended the Diplomatic Academy Advanced Course in Diplomacy organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, in cooperation with Mario Toscano Institute. Moreover, she has taken part to several training courses on international relations in Germany, Croatia, Sweden, Romania, etc.
WORKING EXPERIENCE
Director Laçi joined the Albanian Foreign Service in 2001 and since then she has performed several tasks within the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
November 2018 – Appointed Director of the Department for Europe and Central Asia, in the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
2014 – 2018, – Counselor, Albanian Embassy in Berlin.
2011 – 2014 – Head of CoE – OSCE Unit, Department of International Organizations.
2001 – 2011 – Expert in the Department of International Organizations, CoE – OSCE Unit.
2010 – 2014 – National Coordinator of CPT Convention (European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment). The Secretary General of CoE awarded her contribution during the first Albanian Chairmanship of the Committee of Minister of the Council of Europe in 2012 with a letter of recognition.
Mrs. Laçi has been a Member of the Working Group for the European Commission’s questionnaire as part of the application process of Albania to become a candidate country for EU membership.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITY
She has published various articles in Albania and abroad such as: “The travel of the mythological Europe which marked our European identity”, Albanian Institute of Sociology, Pristina, 2012; “The dichotomies of the Myth of Europe laying at the foundation of our social consciousness”, Mediterranean Journal of Social Sciences, Sapienza, Universita’ di Roma, Italy, 2012; “Six lessons to be learnt from the story of our mythological Europe”, Journal on European Perspectives of the Western Balkans, 2013, Slovenia, etc.
She speaks fluent English, German and Italian and has a good comprehension of French.
