The level of bilateral cooperation with Russian Federation, especially in recent years, appears to be very low. The progress of bilateral relations has not undergone special developments, as it has been conditioned by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Albania has immediately condemned Russia’s attacks, has applied the sanctions imposed by the European Union, and as a co-sponsor of Ukraine in the UN Security Council, has been in the foreground alongside partner countries, such as the USA, Great Britain, France, etc., in the condemnation of the violation of international law by a permanent member country of the SC (Russia) by attacking and not recognizing the sovereignty of Ukraine as an independent state. Also, Albania has voted for the suspension of Russia from the Council of Europe, AP and Council of Europe, UNHRC, etc., until the Russian invasion of Ukraine stops and the Russian army leaves Ukraine. The level of diplomatic relations has been maintained. Meanwhile, there have been expulsions of diplomats of both countries as “non-grata”, from respective capitals.
