The bilateral cooperation between Albania and the Russian Federation, including in the field of investments, is currently at its lowest level. This has come as a result of the policy and aggression of the Russian Federation towards the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Ukraine, after which Albania strongly condemned this unjustified and unprovoked military attack as an act that violates peace, security and international order and in unity with the policy and positions of its allies and strategic partners, joined the international sanctions against Russia. Due to its stance regarding Russian aggression against Ukraine and its solidarity with the sanctions policy, Albania was, on March 7, 2022, included in the list of “unfriendly countries” by the Russian Federation. Meanwhile, diplomatic communication channels and contacts with civil society continue to be functional.
