The 24th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) was held in Madrid from November 30 to December 3, 2021 with the participation of more than 1000 representatives of governments, companies and international organizations from 135 countries, including Albania.
The Albanian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Tourism in the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Mrs. Vilma Bello.
The central focus of the Assembly was to promote tourism worldwide, following the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on the sector. During the Assembly, two sessions of the Executive Council were held, the 114th and the 115th, the proceedings of which were attended by the Albanian delegation.
The Assembly made important decisions. Decided that Samarkand, Uzbekistan, would host the work of the next assembly in 2023. It also decided to appoint the current Secretary-General of the Organization for another term.
