On October 9-23, 2024, UNESCO held the 220th session of the Executive Board, UNESCO’s highest decision-making body. The Board is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the program and budget, ensuring the fulfillment of the Organization’s noble mission: building a culture of peace, eradicating poverty, promoting sustainable development and fostering intercultural dialogue, through education, science, culture, communication and information.
This session was also of special importance in the financial aspect, as the UNESCO Project-Program and Budget for the period 2026-2029 was negotiated and prepared. This document addresses current challenges while laying the foundations for a more sustainable and inclusive future.
Albania actively participated in all discussions, with the main focus on issues related to Ukraine, Afghanistan, Gaza, the internal audit report on budget control mechanisms and risk management strategy, Human Resources Strategy, the use of artificial intelligence , the code of ethics and the procedure for the election of the Director General of UNESCO.
