Exellencies,
Dear guests,
I would like to join my colleague, ambassador Massari in thanking our panelists and all participants for being here today to discuss the prospects and potential for international cooperation in sports for persons with disabilities.
When we speak of international cooperation, Albania and Italy are natural partners and can give this good example of raising awareness on the importance of cooperation also in the social sphere and the inclusion of vulnerable groups.
Through this partnership, Albania had the opportunity to learn from the experience and know-how of the Filippide Association in using sport as a rehabilitation and therapeutical means for persons with disabilities.
Only a week ago, in the capital of our country, in Tirana, together with the Projeto Filippide we organized the third edition of the Run for Autism Marathon. This event was organized during the Week of Italian Culture in Albania, a meaningful choise, as by using the words of the Mayer of Tirana during the opening of the event ” It has been a great lesson of cooperation to run for autism, to show us that culture is not only films, songs and dances, culture is first of all a new mentality, an open mentality, an inclusive mentality”.
Indeed, sports have the unique ability to transcend barriers of language, culture, and nationality, and unite individuals in a common goal of achieving greatness and overcoming challenges. Through international cooperation, we have the opportunity to create a truly inclusive and empowering environment for athletes with disabilities to thrive and succeed on the world stage.
Promoting and integrating sport as means to address the challenges related to the inclusion of people with disabilities is not only a very effective way to address the unique challenges and abilities of individuals with disabilities. By showcasing the talent and determination of athletes with disabilities on a global platform, we can challenge stereotypes and break down barriers that prevent full participation and inclusion in society. We can clearly improve their quality of life!
In terms of capacities for international cooperation, it is crucial that we continue to invest in resources and infrastructure to support people with disabilities at all levels. This includes providing access to training facilities, coaching, and equipment that meet the specific needs of each individual athlete. It also requires ongoing collaboration between governments, sports organizations, and community partners to ensure that the necessary support systems are in place to facilitate the participation of athletes with disabilities in international competitions.
Ultimately, the true prospects and capacities for international cooperation in sports for persons with disabilities are limitless. By working together and embracing the principles of inclusivity and equality, we have the power to create a world where individuals with disabilities are celebrated for their abilities and achievements, both on and off the playing field.
Thank you.
