Andris Stastoli, Counsellor – Albania
Special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council 25 August 2025, Vienna
Thank you, Madam Chair,
As Ukraine marks its Independence Day, we are reminded that for over three years, this independence has been under the gravest threat from Russia’s war of aggression. This war remains a blatant violation of the UN Charter, international law, and the core principles of the OSCE.
We strongly condemn Russia’s ongoing attacks, which continue to cause immense suffering and destruction across Ukraine. At the same time, we note the latest diplomatic efforts towards a just and lasting peace and strongly praise the leadership of President Trump to this end. Any genuine peace must be based on full respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, as well as with strong and legally binding security guarantees.
Albania remains fully committed to ensuring full accountability for all violations of international law, wherever they occur, because this is not only a matter of justice for the victims, but also essential to preventing future atrocities and preserving peace.
Ukraine has shown extraordinary resilience and courage in defending its freedom and democratic future. Albania will continue to stand firmly with Ukraine and to support all efforts to ensure accountability for Russia’s crimes and to achieve a sustainable peace grounded in justice.
Madam Chair,
On this day of great significance for the Ukrainian people, Albania reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with Ukraine – today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes.
Thank you.
