The annual report provided by Director Mecacci offers a comprehensive overview of the vital work and activities undertaken by ODIHR throughout the challenging year of 2023. Despite the obstacles faced, ODIHR has remained steadfast in its commitment to promoting democracy and safeguarding human rights. We commend ODIHR’s actions in addressing critical humanitarian and human rights issues, particularly in Ukraine.

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Director Mecacci and his team in Tirana.
Discussions were held with the highest authorities in our capital, which further emphasized the significance of ODIHR’s presence and assistance in Albania. These interactions served as a strong affirmation of our continuous commitment to electoral reform and the valuable role that ODIHR plays in supporting our efforts in this regard.
Albania is grateful for ODIHR’s willingness to provide in-depth analysis of our election code and assist the parliamentary ad hoc committee on electoral reform. Your expertise and guidance are essential as we work to enhance our democratic processes.
We extend our full support to ODIHR in fulfilling their mandate without hindrance or political pressure. It is crucial that ODIHR continues its vital work in addressing restrictions and violations of human rights, as well as defending the rights of political and civic activists, and human rights defenders.
Albania is proud of its commitment to gender quotas, which have played a pivotal role in increasing women’s representation in our Parliament and municipal councils. This commitment to gender equality aligns with ODIHR’s mission to promote inclusive and representative democracy.
In conclusion, we reaffirm our full support for Director Mecacci and ODIHR.
Their work in advancing democracy, human rights, and the rule of law is crucial for our region’s progress.
