On October 15, 2024, the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Council of Europe, Mr. Dastid Koreshi, in the presence of the deputy Secretary General of CoE, Mr. Bjørn Berge, signed the Council of Europe Convention on Offenses relating to Cultural Property.
This convention, adopted in Nicosia in 2017, aims to combat crimes such as the illegal trafficking of cultural goods and the destruction of cultural property. By joining this international agreement, Albania commits to strengthening its legal framework for the protection of its rich cultural heritage and to increasing cooperation with other countries in addressing cross-border crimes that threaten historical and cultural artifacts.
This action emphasizes Albania’s commitment to preserve its cultural identity and to contribute to global efforts to protect cultural heritage.
