On May 16-17, 2024, the 133rd Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers of the member countries of the Council of Europe was held in Strasbourg. This Ministerial also coincided with the 75th anniversary of the Organization.
In his intervention, Minister Mr. Igli Hasani evaluated the journey traveled by the Council of Europe in these 75 years as a symbol of the commitment and determination of the member countries to strengthen and promote the main principles and values on which this Organization was founded, represented in its three pillars – human rights, the rule of law and democracy, as well as the need for a greater commitment to their promotion in the societies of the member countries. Minister Hasani expressed his gratitude for the help that the Council of Europe has given to Albania in consolidating democracy, human rights and the rule of law during the 29 years of its membership.
Regarding the priorities of the work of the Council of Europe one year after the Reykjavik Summit in May 2023, he appreciated the steps taken towards increasing efforts in support of Ukraine through the Action Plan for its recovery and reconstruction, as well as the start of work on April 2, 2024 for the creation of a database from the Damage Register set up by the Council of Europe at last year’s Summit, to collect complaints about damage caused by Russian aggression in Ukraine, as the first element reinforcing the need of accountability from the Russian Federation.
