On May 17, 2021, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of Europe, Mrs. Albana Dautllari signed with the Deputy Secretary General of KiE, Mr. Bjorn Berge, “Council of Europe Convention on Cinematographic Co-production (revised)”, which enters into force after being ratified by our country.
The Convention was opened for signature by member states and other states party to the European Cultural Convention and for accession by other non-member states and the European Union, in Rotterdam on January 30, 2017. Our country is the 35th country to sign the Convention .
The purpose of the revised Convention is to provide a legal and financial basis for the co-production of feature films involving production companies established in three or more States Parties. The revised convention can also be used as a bilateral legal basis in the absence of a specific co-production treaty between the two parties. The participation of one or more co-producers who are not parties is possible, provided that their total contribution does not exceed 30% of the total production cost. Also, the co-produced work must meet the definition of an officially co-produced cinematographic work presented in Annex II of the Convention. This Convention updates the provisions of the 1992 European Convention on Cinematographic Co-production (ETS No. 147), which was ratified by our country on September 9, 2009.
After the signing ceremony, Ambassador Dautllari held a meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Bjorn Berge. During the meeting Mr. Berge appreciated the commitment of our country to become part of this convention, calling it an important step that directly affects the growth of cinematographic co-production and provides a legal and financial basis for the co-production of feature films.
