In the framework of the Embassy’s ongoing commitment to strengthening and deepening bilateral cooperation with Croatia, with a focus on regional and local cooperation, Ambassador Poda paid a visit to the Prefecture of Osijek – Baranja. During this visit, Ambassador Poda was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Albania in Osijek, Mr. Basri Haliti, at the same time the Chairman of the Council of the Albanian Minority of this Prefecture.
During his stay in Osijek, the Ambassador met with the Prefect of the Prefecture of Osijek – Baranja, Mr. Mato Lukic. The meeting was an opportunity to continue the discussion on the deepening of relations and cooperation between the Prefecture of Osijek – Baranja and the Prefecture of Elbasan.
During the conversation, both interlocutors supported the idea of the need to use the potential of regional cooperation in order to increase bilateral economic cooperation. They appreciated the increasing trend of the volume of commercial exchanges and underlined that there are areas of common interest for cooperation such as tourism, agriculture, culture, education, but also related to joint applications for EU projects.
Also, they discussed the upcoming visit of Prefect Lukic to Elbasan, where a bilateral agreement is expected to be signed.
During this visit, Ambassador Poda also met with the Police Director of Osijek-Barranjes Prefecture, Mr. Ladislav Bece, with whom it was discussed the exchange of experiences of cross-border police cooperation and the addressing of issues related to the Schengen area.
