Consular Services
A. Protection and consular assistance to Albanian citizens
The Consular Office actively protects and intervenes, both with the authorities of the state of Croatia, and with third parties regarding the rights and interests of every Albanian citizen.
Assists to help every Albanian citizen in a difficult situation, or in cases of disaster even when this is not caused by third parties.
B. Provision of Albanian citizens with temporary travel documents
Passes are issued only when the person appears in person before the consul. Exceptions are made in cases where the request is made by the competent authorities of the host country or for strong health reasons.
Supporting documentation can be: invalid passport, original identity card, birth certificate with photo, driver’s license.
The citizen must have with him 2 photographs of 4×5 size.
C. The consular office accepts requests for: obtaining, regaining and relinquishing citizenship
1. Acquisition of citizenship by birth: If one of the parents has Albanian citizenship, the child acquires citizenship by himself. The child’s parents must appear at the consular office to declare the child’s birth, as well as declare their consent for the child to receive Albanian citizenship. They must have the child’s birth certificate stamped with the Apostille Seal.
2. Gaining citizenship by naturalization. The foreign citizen must have knowledge of the Albanian language. The documents that must be submitted: request addressed to the President of the Republic of Albania; birth certificate with Apostille Seal; notarized photocopy of the residence permit in Albania; notarized photocopy of the apartment ownership deed or apartment rental contract; notarized photocopy of the employment contract or tax office certification that he is self-employed; photocopies of documents proving the availability of sufficient financial means; proof of criminal record obtained in the last 6 months and equipped with the Apostille Seal; notarized photocopies of the document of being an asylum seeker, if any; the written opinion of the local police station on the behavior of the applicant, if he lives in Albania; 3 photos of 4×5 size.
3. Reacquiring Albanian citizenship can be applied for in cases where the person, who renounced Albanian citizenship due to the promise of obtaining another citizenship, has not acquired it.
Necessary documents: request addressed to the President of the Republic of Albania; birth and family certificate; certificates from the local Police Station and the Prefecture on the citizenship that the applicant’s parents have or had; notarial statement on the application to acquire another citizenship; certification of the relevant administrative unit; birth or death certificate of the applicant’s parents; 3 photos of 4×5 size.
4. Renunciation of citizenship
Required documentation: request addressed to the President of the Republic of Albania; promise to obtain citizenship or citizenship document equipped with the Apostille Seal; birth certificate with photo; criminal record; certification by the District Court; certification from the Prosecutor’s Office; certification from the Enforcement Office; certification from the administrative unit; marriage certificate, if married; certificate of marital status in the country where you live; for minors, a notarized declaration of two parents is required; proof of residence in the promising state; 3 photos of 4×5 size.
D. In the Consular office, civil status actions can be performed:
1. Marriage
The consular employee contracts marriages, when at least one of the spouses is an Albanian citizen. Required documentation: birth certificate of the last 3 months with photo legalized by the prefecture for each of the spouses; marriage certificate of the last 3 months legalized by the prefecture for each of the spouses.
When one of the spouses is a foreigner, the required documentation: marriage license with Apostille Seal; certification from the Embassy of the country of origin; birth certificate with Apostille Seal and translated into Albanian; photocopy of passport.
2. Registration of births and deaths on the basis of certificates equipped with the Apostille Seal and translated into the Albanian language.
E. Notarial functions:
1. Compilation of declarations, authorizations and simple powers of attorney;
2. Acknowledgment of original copies of documents.
F. Administrative functions:
1. Issuance of certificates;
2. Translations;
3. Permission for transporting the corpse through the territory of Albania or for burial in Albania.
G. Legal Functions
1. The consular office is interested in the competent authorities in cases where an Albanian citizen is detained, arrested or imprisoned;
2. The Consular Office provides assistance for matters of a legal nature in cases where this is required.
Consular Services Fees:
Issuance of Pass 30 euros
We issue certificates for 30 euros
We issue a certificate of 20 euros
Compilation of declarations, authorizations and simple powers of attorney 20 euros
Including the original, 20 euros/page
Translation of documents 10 euros/page
Payments for consular services are made at all branches of Zagrebačka Banka, to the account number of the Albanian Embassy 2360000-1102227522. Documents issued by the Embassy must be equipped with the consular stamp.
