Donika Hoxha currently serves as Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Republic of Croatia. A career diplomat and historian, she holds a PhD in the History of International Relations from La Sapienza University of Rome (2010), following a Master’s degree in Euro-American Languages and Literatures (2005), and postgraduate studies in Diplomacy at the University of Malta (2000). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English Language from the University of Tirana in 1998.
Her professional career began in 1998 at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, where she served as Spokesperson and Foreign Relations Officer. She later joined the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, working in the Department of Press and Information (1999–2002), and subsequently held key positions such as Head of Protocol and Adviser to the Prime Minister (2002), and Director of Economic, Public, and Diaspora Diplomacy (2015–2018). She also served as lecturer of Business English at the University of Tirana (1998–2001).
In Albania’s diplomatic missions abroad, Ambassador Hoxha has served as Counselor and First Secretary at the Embassy of Albania in Rome (2002–2006; 2008–2015). She was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Bulgaria in October 2018 and to the Republic of Moldova (non-resident) in October 2019. In recognition of her contribution to strengthening bilateral ties, she was awarded in November 2023 the Order of the “Madara Horseman,” First Class – one of the highest honors conferred by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Prior to her current posting, she served as Chief of Cabinet at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania.
Ambassador Hoxha is fluent in English and Italian and has a good command of French. She brings to her role extensive experience in public diplomacy, cultural cooperation, and international relations.
