November 22, which marks Alphabet Day, will be declared a national holiday.
In a statement to the media, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, announced that the Council of Ministers will propose to the Assembly of Albania the addition of “Alphabet Day” as one of Albania’s national holidays.
Minister Hasani said that November 22 represents the greatest unifying moment for Albanians, as he underlined that the Albanian language is what truly unites Albanians everywhere in the world.
“We undertook this initiative based on the discussions we had after the Diaspora Summit. The Prime Minister of Albania announced it in the presence of all representatives of the Albanian diaspora. Together with the Ministry of Education, a very important calendar of events for the year 2024, related to the Albanian language, has also been prepared,” he said.
Asked about the progress of Albania-EU negotiations, Minister Hasani stated that in the following weeks a decision is expected from the EU regarding the holding of the second Intergovernmental Conference.
“Let’s continue to show how serious we are and how good we want to fulfill what we have an obligation to the Albanian people, but also to the European institutions”, said the Albanian chief diplomat.
