The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, signed the agreement on Tuesday during the visit of the Albanian chief diplomat to Italy.
Minister Hasani evaluated Albania-Italy relations as a model of good neighborliness and cooperation, as he underlined that the signing of this agreement is another promise kept by the Albanian government.
“The agreement on the mutual recognition of Social Security guarantees two very important things: the benefit of social security and accumulated contributions in Albania and Italy and the equal treatment of employed and self-employed persons, both for Albanian and Italian citizens,” he said. .
The Albanian chief diplomat said that the European integration of BP should be accelerated, as he also emphasized the role that Albania is playing in addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Minister Antonio Tajani underlined that this joint decision of Tirana and Rome offers many people security and perspective for the future.
The agreement on the mutual recognition of Social Security between Albania and Italy enables the provision of benefits in social security, as well as the equal treatment of employed persons and for the employed themselves.
With the signing of this agreement, Albania has a total of 16 signed agreements for Social Protection. Meanwhile, the 17 agreements in the process of negotiation and 3 others in the evaluation process indicate the continued will to expand international cooperation in the field of social security.
The signing of the Agreement on Social Security today in Rome brings benefits to Albanian and Italian citizens, allowing the joining of contribution periods for stable pensions.
According to the data of the Albanian institutions, currently 300 thousand Albanian citizens with regular residence in Italy contribute to their social security. It is estimated that over the years, the number of people who will benefit from this agreement will exceed 500,000.
