The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs organized the closing meeting “Albania in the Security Council, contribution to global peace and security during the most challenging times”.
Minister Igli Hasani emphasized that Albania successfully completed one of the most demanding tasks in foreign policy, significantly increasing its profile and image in the international arena.
“Small countries, like Albania, are destined to witness the great events of the time. But there is one area where small countries can compete with the biggest powers. This is the domain of ideas and principles. There we are all equal to compete and be heard”, said the Albanian chief diplomat.
Ambassador Ferit Hoxha said that the mandate in the SC included Albania on the global map. According to him, this valuable experience will serve to strengthen our capacities.
Former Minister Olta Xhaçka, through a video message, praised the partners who, according to her, helped Albania to turn its mandate in the SC into a success story.
The representative of the USA at the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, through a video message, praised Albania as a valuable ally of the USA at the SC, as she emphasized that the Albanian team exceeded everyone’s expectations with their dedication and professionalism.
The Ambassador of the European Union in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, appreciated the role of Albania in achieving the objectives of the EU in the SC, as he stated that Albania was consistent with the position of the EU in a consistent manner.
The US Chargé d’Affaires in Tirana, David Wisner, as well as the Ambassadors of Switzerland and Slovenia in Tirana, Ruth Huber and Peter Japelj, were part of the panel in this activity.
After nearly 7 decades of membership in the UN, Albania was, for the first time in its history, a member of the United Nations Security Council. Our country served in the UNSC from January 2022 to December 2023.
