On June 20, 2024, a bilateral meeting between Albania and Kosovo took place in Tirana, in the field of public diplomacy and diaspora, at the rank of Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Ministers of Education.
The Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Artemis Malo and Liza Gashi, as well as the Deputy Ministers of Education, Nina Guga and Taulant Kelmendi, appreciated the cooperation so far with the diaspora, the joint efforts of the two countries in preserving the national identity through education and the use of the mother tongue , preserving and promoting national values and heritage, as part of basic human rights and freedoms.
The main lines of our engagement and the basic goals of joint work with the diaspora are obligations derived from joint governmental agreements between our two countries.
In the meeting, it was agreed on the further commitments of the two countries in:
Harmonization and improvement of the relevant legislation, to adapt it to the current conditions of the Albanian diaspora; increasing common standards for the recruitment of teachers in the diaspora; co-financing of projects and programs approved by the responsible institutions of the parties; joint organizations in sensitization and promotional campaigns for/with the diaspora; digitalization of Albanian textbooks in the diaspora; partnership and joint efforts between the universities of Tirana and Pristina, to protect the Albanian language in the framework of European languages.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on the establishment of working groups, with experts from the ministries responsible to advance with the above projects.
