HRC 60: Item 2 General Debate on the oral update by the High Commissioner for Human Rights
Geneve, September 9, 2025
Statement delivered by Permanent Mission of Albania
Thank you, Mr. Vice President,
Albania thanks the High Commissioner for the update and commends his unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in monitoring and promoting human rights globally, often under challenging circumstances. We commend the High Commissioner’s active engagement in the UN80 Initiative, support its mandate and the work of his Office, which remains a cornerstone of the international human rights architecture.
My country shares the High Commissioner’s deep concern over the alarming deterioration of human rights in an unprecedented number of armed conflicts where civilians are deliberately targeted, humanitarian access is denied, and international humanitarian law is routinely violated.
In Sudan, we condemn the ongoing violence, and we call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, unrestricted humanitarian access, and full accountability for all violations of the international humanitarian law. Albania fully supports the mandate of the Fact-Finding Mission and urge all parties to protect civilians and to fully cooperate with international community.
In Democratic Republic of Congo, we are alarmed by the continued reports of grave human rights violations, including sexual violence and the attacks on civilians. Albania supports efforts to strengthen accountability mechanisms and calls for an enhanced international intervention to address the root causes of instability.
I thank you.
