Mr. President,

Albania thanks the Austrian delegation for the presentation of its national report and for its continued commitment to the Universal Periodic Review mechanism.

Albania welcomes Austria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its institutional framework for human rights, including the role of the College of Ombudsmen and the adoption of sectoral policies aimed at combating discrimination, hate crimes, and gender-based violence.

We note with interest the progress made in the areas of human rights education, administrative transparency, and the protection of children.

Albania makes the following recommendations to Austria:

1. Strengthen the independence, resources, and effectiveness of mechanisms for investigating allegations of ill-treatment by law enforcement, in accordance with international standards.
2. Continue measures to improve conditions of detention.
3. Harmonize and strengthen the legislative framework for combating discrimination and hate speech.
