26 Janvier 2026
Statement delivered by H. E. Mrs. Vasilika Hysi, Ambassador, Permanent Representative
Mr. President,
Albania thanks the Australian delegation for the presentation of its country report and commends its continued commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights.
We welcome the efforts undertaken since the previous Universal Periodic Review cycle, particularly in combating gender-based violence, promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, and strengthening privacy protection frameworks.
Albania also acknowledges the measures taken to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as the investments made in social and health policies, even though challenges remain, notably regarding the need for a comprehensive federal human rights law.
Albania emphasizes the importance of full and effective cooperation with international mechanisms and thanks Australia for its constructive engagement within the UPR framework.
Albania makes the following recommendations to Australia:
- Adopt a comprehensive federal human rights law to ensure consistent and harmonized protection of fundamental rights throughout the country;
- Ratify the Convention relating to the Status of Migrant Workers;
- Continue efforts to end all forms of discrimination in the country.
Thank you.
