Thank you Mr. Chair
Agenda Item 7
Albania aligns itself with the statement delivered by Poland of behalf of EU members states and would like to thank the Director General for the report on the implementation of WHO Action Plan on mental health 2013-2030.
Mental health constitutes an important pillar of the Albanian National Health Strategy. The plan of action for the period 2023-2026 aims to address key challenges in the field of mental health, to provide integrated and social care services in community-based settings, implementation of prevention strategies; building professional capacities, promoting mental well-being based on the current needs of the population.
The expected results of this strategy consist of the development of mental health services towards universal health coverage, strengthening the sustainability of the population’s mental health during emergencies, standard mental health services supported by improved monitoring mechanisms and better governance and advocacy in this area.
Albania supports the WHO Plan of Action 2013-2030, which defines clear actions to promote mental health and well-being for all, to prevent mental health disorders for those at risk and to achieve universal coverage for mental health services.
We would like to thank Chile and Dominican Republic for proposing the initiative on Mental Health as a Dedicated Agenda Item in WHO Governing Bodies”, co- sponsored by 19 countries. This decision will provide an important tool in the implementation of the comprehensive mental health action plan by giving MS the appropriate space for reviewing the Secretariat’s work on mental health.
Albania is happy to join the co-sponsors of this decision, confirming its commitment to advancing the mental health agenda, through its contribution to global efforts in promoting mental well-being and improving mental health.
Thank you
