HRC 60: General Debate on Item 8
Geneve, September 30, 2025
Thank you, Mr. Vice President,
Albania aligns itself with the statement of the European Union.
The Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action is a key document that reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect and promote human rights. Albania remains strongly committed to its principles and continues to work toward their full implementation.
Since the adoption of the Declaration, my country has made important progress. We have carried out major reforms to strengthen our democratic institution and improve the rule of law. Justice reform is one of the most important reforms. Our justice system has been restructured to ensure independence, transparency, and accountability.
Albania has adopted a National Strategy on Gender Equality, has improved services for victims of domestic violence. Many actions have been taken to prevent gender-based violence. We continue to promote the rights of women, children, minorities and persons with disabilities. All these reforms and actions are also part of our path toward EU membership.
Mr. Vice President
Despite our progress, we still face challenges. Ensuring equal access to justice, fighting discrimination, protecting freedom of expression remain ongoing priorities. We also recognize the need to strengthen cooperation with civil society and to improve human rights education, especially for young people.
Albania will continue to work with international partners to fully implement the Vienna Declaration.
I thank you.
