51ème Session de l’EPU
Intervention sur l’EPU de la Géorgie
26 Janvier 2026
Statement delivered by H.E. Mrs. Vasilika Hysi, Ambassador, Permanent Representative
Mr. President,
Albania thanks Georgia for the presentation of its national report.
Albania takes note of the progress made by Georgia, including the adoption of national strategies on human rights, the fight against corruption, the protection of the rights of women and children, and efforts to strengthen social services and institutional mechanisms.
However, Albania notes the credible allegations of excessive use of force during peaceful demonstrations, violations of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and the persistent challenges to the independence of the judiciary and the fight against impunity.
We remain concerned about the human rights situation in the occupied regions of Georgia.
Albania encourages Georgia to pursue an inclusive dialogue with civil society, independent media, and national human rights institutions, and to ensure full respect for its international human rights obligations.
Albania makes the following recommendations to Georgia:
- Reconsider legislation affecting freedom of association, expression, and the media, in accordance with international standards.
- Ensure prompt, independent, and effective investigations into all allegations of excessive use of force, torture, or ill-treatment by law enforcement, and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
- Strengthen the independence, transparency, and impartiality of the judiciary.
Thank you.
