HRC61 – Item 4: Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur and the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran
Geneva, 16 March 2026
Statement by Ms. Vasilika Hysi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Albania
Mr. President,
Albania thanks the Special Rapporteur and the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the human rights situation in Iran for their reports and reaffirms its strong support for their mandates.
The findings presented today confirm a deeply alarming reality: the human rights situation in Iran continues to deteriorate at an unprecedented rate.
We strongly condemn the excessive, disproportionate, and lethal use of force by Iranian security forces against peaceful protesters.
The targeting of civilians exercising their fundamental rights to freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly constitutes a flagrant violation of international human rights law.
Albania is particularly concerned about the widespread arbitrary arrests and detentions.
The persistent allegations of torture enforced disappearances, incommunicado detention, ill-treatment, and forced confessions are extremely alarming.
Mr. President,
These violations are evidence of a broader system of repression and impunity that has persisted for decades. The scale and gravity of the reported violations underscore the urgent need to ensure accountability and end impunity.
Albania stands with the Iranian people and supports their legitimate aspirations for dignity, freedom, and the full respect of their fundamental rights.
Thank you.
