Thank you, Mr. President,

Albania thanks the Chair-Rapporteur and the members of the Working Group on Situations for the report presented at this session. We commend the Working Group for its dedicated work in fulfilling its mandate under Human Rights Council resolution 5/1.

Albania reiterates its strong support for the system of special procedures of the Human Rights Council. We view these mechanisms as one of the most effective instruments created through broad consensus, and we remain convinced of their essential role in ensuring the credibility and effectiveness of the Council’s work.

Albania takes note of the decision of the Working Group to refer the situation concerning Tajikistan to the Council. We commend the recent steps taken by the authorities and the information delivered to the Working Group. At the same time, we underline that such information should have been provided months earlier, to allow for a timely and comprehensive assessment of the allegations. We also stress the need for full cooperation of all States with the complaint procedure, including the provision of timely and substantive information, to allow a fair and comprehensive assessment of the facts.

Albania pledges its continued support to the special procedures of the Human Rights Council and encourages all Member States to engage constructively with them. Such engagement is vital to strengthen the protection of human rights and to uphold the values of the United Nations Charter.
