HRC 60: Enhanced interactive dialogue on reports of the High Commissioner and the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar
Geneve, September 8, 2025
Statement delivered by Permanent Mission of Albania
Thank you, Mr. President,
Albania thanks High Commissioner for his presentation, his Office and the Independent Investigative Mechanism for their comprehensive and deeply concerning reports on the human rights situation in Myanmar. The findings presented, along with recent developments, underscore the urgent need for accountability and justice over war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Myanmar.
The humanitarian situation in Myanmar has deteriorated dramatically with over 3,6 million people, currently displaced due to ongoing armed conflict and natural disasters such as devastating earthquake of March 2025. The situation in Rakhine State remains dire. The Rohingya population continues to suffer from mass killing, forced displacements, denial of humanitarian aid.
We remain deeply alarmed by continued and escalating violence perpetrated by the military authorities, including indiscriminate airstrikes, torture, sexual violence, and targeting of civilians, including children. The targeting of children and utilization of sexual violence as a weapon of war are particularly concerned. These acts are unacceptable and must cease immediately.
Mr. President,
Albania stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar and reaffirm its commitment to justice, human rights and the rule of law. Accountability must prevails and impunity must end.
I thank you.
